SIP Trunking

How to Configure SIP Trunks

SIP trunks connect your on-premise or cloud PBX to the public telephone network (PSTN) via the internet. This guide covers the credentials and settings needed for any SIP-compatible PBX.

Finding Your SIP Credentials

Log in to your VoIPCloud portal. Navigate to SIP Trunks. Click your trunk to view: SIP Server (proxy hostname), Username, Password, and Outbound Proxy (if applicable).

Essential SIP Settings

Use these settings in your PBX:
  • SIP Server / Registrar: sip.voipcloud.online
  • Port: 5060 (UDP) or 5061 (TLS)
  • Username: your trunk username
  • Password: your trunk password
  • Codecs (in priority order): G.722, G.711a (alaw), G.711u (ulaw)
  • DTMF Mode: RFC 2833

Inbound DID Routing

Inbound calls arrive with a DID number in the SIP To header. Configure your PBX to route the DID to the correct extension or IVR. In the VoIPCloud portal, verify each DID is assigned to your trunk under Phone Numbers → Assigned Numbers.

Outbound Caller ID

Set the outbound CLI (Caller ID) in your PBX trunk settings to one of your assigned DID numbers. The VoIPCloud platform validates the CLI against your account — using an unassigned number will cause calls to be rejected.

Firewall Rules

Open the following on your firewall and router:
  • UDP 5060 (SIP signalling) — to/from sip.voipcloud.online
  • UDP 10000–20000 (RTP media) — to/from VoIPCloud media servers
Disable SIP ALG on your router (this breaks SIP on most consumer routers).
