Teams Direct Routing connects your Microsoft 365 Teams environment to the public telephone network (PSTN) via PC Madness VoIP. This replaces the need for Microsoft Calling Plans.
Prerequisites
You need: a Microsoft 365 Business Basic or higher subscription with Teams, a PC Madness VoIP Hosted PBX plan plus the Teams add-on, and Global Admin or Teams Admin rights in your Microsoft 365 tenant.
Provisioning from the VoIPCloud Portal
Log in to your VoIPCloud portal. Navigate to Add-ons → Microsoft Teams. Click Enable Direct Routing and enter your Microsoft 365 tenant domain (e.g., yourcompany.onmicrosoft.com). The portal will provision the Session Border Controller (SBC) connection automatically.
Assigning Phone Numbers to Users
In the VoIPCloud portal, navigate to Phone Numbers. Assign a DID number to each Teams user. In the Microsoft Teams Admin Center, go to Users → Manage Users and confirm the phone number and voice policy are applied.
Enabling Teams Calling
Each Teams user must be licensed with Phone System (included in M365 E3/E5, or as an add-on). In Teams Admin Center, assign the user a Direct Routing voice policy. Calls will now route through VoIPCloud.
Testing the Connection
Open Microsoft Teams and navigate to Calls. Dial a mobile number. You should hear ringing within 3 seconds. If calls fail, check the VoIPCloud portal for any SBC registration errors and confirm the Microsoft 365 phone policy is applied to the user.
